If you could change IMSA, how would you do it? From the biggest things to the smallest, what would you change?
The only things I can think of right now are:
internet shutting off at 1
the sodexo food service
and in-hall + in-room.
I'm writing a paper on this and would like any ideas you might want to throw out there.
And Mamatha, I'm definitely expecting a response from you, Ms. President-Elect :)

Heh, thanks for the call-out, Chris. :D
Interestingly enough, StudCo is tackling two of the things that you mentioned- internet and in-hall/in-room times. We're trying to see if we can get 24-hour weekend IRN, as well as change the way in-room timing/fobs work. All of this work has been done through proposals/talking to Admin.
Asides from that, I think there are a few things that could change in this school. One of the bigger ones that I'm personally interested in is improving SIR...problem is, certain SIR Coordinators aren't really receptive to student input.
One of the specific things that needs to improve is the process of getting an SIR adviser (especially off-campus). As it is, I feel like somany students try and fail at getting one. One of the things that I'd like to do this year is set up some sort of database of previous SIR advisers, a database that would be readily available for students to reference (unlike the current listings).
I think it's really awesome that Meena Iyer and Shaine Strullmeyer are working on getting some student voice onto the IMSA Admissions process. I want to see if we can extend the current Student Ambassadors program to include facilitating a shadowing opportunity for prospective IMSA students.
It'd also be nice if more students attended PAC meetings- meaning that they need to be advertised better.
Random one- I REALLY want all the clocks in this school to be atomic, so that they all display the right time! Unfortunately, it's been tried, and the only place that they seem to get a signal is near the front desk. Damn.
These are just some things off the top of my head. :)
ALSO
Revamping the Student Union would ROCK. Make it a coffeehouse setting? A cool, GOOD hangout spot?
hm.
good call mamatha on the student union. and all the other work that you're getting done (i guess we made the right choice last thursday).
i think that chris has brought up some good ones, but would that make imsa truly enjoyable? would more people stay weekends? would less people drop out? (excuse my horrible lack of grammar skills). oh, and im not trying to put you at fault here chris, good topic
and i doubt that my last post was entirely coherent, so my bad
Thanks for the input guys!
I was just thinking about daily inconveniences at the moment. Ideally, I would have IMSA built right next to a mall within walking distance, but that's just me, and I don't think that is feasible. I love mamatha's coffeehouse setting for the student union. I love the setting of places like Starbucks and Panera especially, where you can chill and think about writing a book on your laptop sipping warm french vanilla coffee. That would be awesome. And maybe if the student union was open all the time and the door that connects it outside by the front desk would be a fob-in door that we could use- the one in that little partitioned area with the stairs and that random tree.
andy, i think everyone made a wonderful choice last week, but do keep in mind that these are things COUNCIL is doing as a whole.
mamatha has some great ideas and is going to be an excellent president, but this stuff is not all her.
Yup, agreed. I don't think I ever claimed it to be just me though. We- as in Council, one cohesive group. :)
i know you didnt, just telling andy.
Chris-
I really like what you said, about being able to fob in there.
Also- what is this paper for? Just curious. =)
Is this for the Russian journal?
For our class it's due on monday.
Yea, this is for Russian. I was just stumped for ideas, but I like all the things we talked about
:D
